One of the directors of this film, yours truly, went to a Sexual Attitude Reassessment workshop this past weekend also known as a SAR. What is a SAR you ask? Well known in the sex professionals’ community, a SAR is a requirement of AASECT or the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists to become certified, in this case as a Sex Therapist, something I have been working towards for the past 4 ½ years. The SAR is designed to take you out of your comfort zone, exposing you to extreme forms of sexuality, subcultures of sexuality like BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism, masochism) and Transgender, prostitution and bestiality/zoophilia to explicit gay male and lesbian porn, anal sex in the heterosexual world and learning about sex toys, lubes and the like.
The course reminded me of a class I took at San Francisco State University, Variations in Human Sexuality, which explored everything under the sun but heterosexuality.
Why I loved this workshop because it is such a reminder of what a diverse species we are. And, I went home my first night of the workshop well aware of my desire to always live as honestly and authentically as possible.
My weekend was all about freeing up the mind and soul, by living honestly and genuinely with yourself. I always come back to this in my work too. And in this film too. I want people to feel good about flying their freak flag.
And now I am here in Vegas.
