Hello Friends!
I can't believe so much time has gone by. First of all, let me start by saying, I'm super excited about the next phase of Temples and Brothels. Second, we have finally (after some major delays) started sifting through the hours and years of footage we have collected. We started this project in April of 2011 and we are now 4 1/2 years in. In that time we've learned so much, met so many amazing people and gathered so much information. And, while, there is still a little more information to gather, a few more interviews, etc, for the most part we are ready to move this into post-production of this film, which means: We are ready to put this film together!!
And, while I understand it is still early I am putting the word out there now. We need some team members to finish this film: specifically we need editors, sound editors and graphic designers! I am currently in NYC, so New York based professionals are great- but I will take Los Angeles based ones too (and other locales too, if you think they are a good fit.) Please send me all your referrals and recommendations, please.
And, of course compensation is key. I want to work with dedicated people, who really dig this project and idea, so fund raising for this purpose is going to be a major portion, after all the details are sorted out. (And believe me when I say this, the thought of crowd funding has paralyzed me, but I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I do need to embrace this necessary step.)
Which leads me to this email....
I need your help! I'm also looking for event planners, people with film festival insights and social media mavens who can help with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram - if you have any interest or know of people send them my way or hit me up!!
A little about the film:
Temples and Brothels is documentary film. Against a backdrop of a country struggling to legalize same-sex marriage, and the growing threat of sex-trafficking, a country built on the premise of freedom and (false) security, which spoon feeds it's people monogamy, hetero-sexual marriage and family values, a sex therapist, a filmmaker and some friends travel the southwest to explore prostitution, and polygamy, two phenomena, which ironically (or coincidentally) exist side by side in the wild west (Nevada, Arizona and Utah). The film will also explore America's obsession with monogamy, the history of polygamy, and prostitution in the US, the growing and devastating world of human slavery and Proposition 8, the act that doomed same-sex marriage in California for many years.
